A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the BEST Academy boys basketball team for winning the 2024-2025 GHSA Class A Division I Boys State Basketball Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the BEST Academy boys basketball team has established and maintained a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics; and

WHEREAS, excellent play, superior teamwork, and extraordinary resilience made this team a spectacular one to observe throughout the season, and as a fitting finale to its remarkable 2025 campaign, the team captured its first-ever state championship; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, dedication, hard work, and unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; its superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of coaches Brian Weeden, Mario Lemons Sr., Damian Goodwin, and Jessica Johnson; and

WHEREAS, the team was further supported throughout the season by Managers ZaMya Wallace and Taylor Roach'e as well as Athletic Trainer Lance Hibbert-Parrish; and

WHEREAS, this all-star team included Xion Evans #1, Jacob Mickell #4, Nicholas Dozier #10, Alexander Barrett #11, Mario Lemons Jr. #14, Joshua Mickell #15, Wendell Brown Jr. #21, and Curtis Martin #25; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the BEST Academy boys basketball team for winning the 2024-2025 GHSA Class A Division I Boys State Basketball Championship and extend best wishes for their continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the BEST Academy boys basketball team's staff members.
