A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the contributions of Poder Latinx in Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Poder Latinx, a nonpartisan, nonprofit civic and social justice organization, has long advocated on behalf of the Latino community in the United States, committed to enhancing voter registration and participation within the Latino community; and
WHEREAS, founded in 2019, this esteemed organization has been instrumental in raising awareness about issues affecting the Latino population, such as the economy, environment, and civic engagement, thereby fostering a more informed and engaged electorate; and
WHEREAS, this organization leads year-round voter engagement and issue-based advocacy campaigns through civic engagement programs to encourage eligible voters to participate and contribute to this country's democracy; and
WHEREAS, this group has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to informing and empowering the Hispanic community by providing comprehensive voter education and information in both English and Spanish and working to fill engagement gaps within the Hispanic community throughout election cycles; and
WHEREAS, the work done in Georgia has led to 3,792 new and updated voter registrations of eligible voters, 800,155 calls and 145,340 texts made to constituents, and 124,608 doors knocked to encourage civic participation during important electoral events, strengthening our local and national democracy; and
WHEREAS, their advocacy has played a key role in bridging the gap for Latino voters by addressing barriers such as language accessibility, access to accurate state election information, and culturally relevant community engagement and has been instrumental in getting out the vote in Georgia's general and runoff elections for the past four years through youth voter registration drives, providing crucial election information to Spanish-speaking voters, advocating for language accessibility in voting materials, and canvassing Hispanic-majority neighborhoods to strengthen the state's election infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, the organization empowers the next generation of Latino leaders through leadership development programs, including the Poderosas Fellowship, which equips young Latinas with the tools needed to engage in their communities and fulfill their civic duty, and initiatives focused on engaging Latino voters to strengthen their participation in democracy; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the Latino community be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Poder Latinx for its work uplifting the lives of Latino Americans and for its outstanding commitment to advancing voter registration, education, and participation among the Latino community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Poder Latinx.
