Senate Resolution 54

A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Butts County upon the bicentennial anniversary of its founding; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on December 24, 1825, Butts County was created as the 64th county of the State of Georgia and named in honor of Captain Samuel Butts, a military officer killed in the Creek War of 1814; and

WHEREAS, for two centuries, Butts County has played an important part in the vitality and economic prosperity of the state, beginning as an agrarian community, transitioning over time into an industrial community, and now emerging as a logistical and technological leader in Central Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Butts County is the home of many natural attractions, including Indian Springs State Park, the oldest state park in the United States, as well as the Ocmulgee River, Jackson Lake, the Dausett Trails Nature Center, and many miles of outdoor walking and biking trails, all of which have contributed toward the county's designation as "The Outdoor Capital of Georgia"; and

WHEREAS, Butts County has become a notable location for motion picture and television film productions, which has brought positive attention and a burgeoning tourism industry to the community, contributing to its fame and notability; and

WHEREAS, Butts County has enjoyed a long and rich history of civic and community involvement; political leadership at the local, state, and federal levels; religious and spiritual roots; enduring family and commercial businesses; and the honor of being a place where eight generations of Georgia citizens have called home.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate Butts County upon the grand occasion of the bicentennial anniversary of its founding and acknowledge its contributions over the past two centuries to the betterment of both the State of Georgia and the United States of America.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
