A RESOLUTION
Honoring and celebrating the 80th birthday of Marilyn Arrington; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, born on March 4, 1945, in Rome, Georgia, Marilyn Arrington has dedicated her life to education, service, and community advocacy; and
WHEREAS, she is a proud graduate of Clark College, Class of 1966, and furthered her education by obtaining both a master's and a specialist's degree from Georgia State University, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning, including her enrollment in a doctoral program at Georgia State University in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn Arrington dedicated over 30 years to shaping young minds in the Atlanta Public Schools system, beginning her career at the historic Booker T. Washington High School and later extending her impact by teaching GED preparation at Atlanta Technical College, helping countless students achieve their educational goals; and
WHEREAS, she has exemplified a spirit of service and leadership for over 50 years as a Golden Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and as a charter member of the Pi Alpha Omega Chapter, established in 1985; and
WHEREAS, she has also been a distinguished alumnae member of The Links, Incorporated, Azalea City Chapter, and an active member of the Clark Atlanta University Guild, further strengthening her commitment to education, mentorship, and community enrichment; and
WHEREAS, as a devoted and longtime member of Cascade United Methodist Church for over 40 years, she has served on the Executive Board, providing leadership and guidance to her faith community; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn Arrington is a proud resident of Southwest Atlanta, where she has lived on Cascade Road for 44 years, making a lasting impact as a community servant, advocate, and engaged neighbor; and
WHEREAS, she is known for her love of the arts and entertainment, her adventurous spirit as a member of the Nature Gurlz, and her deep commitment to family as a mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, sister, and friend; and
WHEREAS, as she celebrates this milestone 80th birthday, it is fitting and proper to recognize her extraordinary contributions, enduring legacy, and the countless lives she has touched throughout her journey.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Marilyn Arrington, extend heartfelt congratulations on her 80th birthday, and express profound gratitude for her decades of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to education and community empowerment. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Marilyn Arrington.
