Senate Resolution 603 By: Senators Bearden of the 30th and Brass of the 6th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs on January 20,2026; and WHEREAS, Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs was born on July 3, 1935, in Delta, Alabama, a beloved daughter of the late Reverend Wiley Sprayberry and Maurice Rogers Sprayberry; and WHEREAS, Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs earned a double master’s degree in education and devoted 42 years to teaching, retiring in 1996 from the Jefferson County Public School System in Alabama; and WHEREAS, a devoted servant of the church, she helped organize and strengthen numerous church programs throughout her life and was instrumental in founding the Pre-K program at First Methodist Church of Villa Rica, where she was a faithful member for 19 years; and WHEREAS, she served faithfully as a minister’s wife for 40 years, standing beside her husband in dedicated pastoral service; and WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs will long be remembered for her dedication to education, faith, family, and service to others and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Mary Sprayberry Hatcher Boggs.
