A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the 25th Anniversary of the Captain John Collins Chapter of the Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter of the Georgia Society of Sons of the American Revolution organized in Cobb County on October 14, 2000, with the purpose, commitment, and enthusiasm of promoting patriotism and preserving America's founding history and heritage; and

WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter's proud members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter continues to perpetuate the ideals of the war for independence, through the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph of the men and women who achieved the independence of the American people; and

WHEREAS, for 25 years, the exemplary community service undertaken by the members of Captain John Collins Chapter includes working with Cobb County's veterans; placing markers at Revolutionary War patriots’ gravesites; offering the services of the color guard to parades and grave dedications; planting Liberty Trees, and building dedicating markers and monuments recognizing America's 250th, and other appropriate events, including participating in new citizenship swearing-in ceremonies; and

WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter annually honors individuals for outstanding patriotic achievement as well as service to our community; and

WHEREAS, moreover, the Captain John Collins Chapter annually acknowledges outstanding high school students with the Awards and Scholarship opportunities, works closely with and recognizes exceptional Cobb County JROTC cadets, conducts and participates in induction ceremonies to recognize new Eagle Scouts, and hosts a verity of programs for students in Cobb County promoting patriotism and preserving American history; and

WHEREAS, the elected officers of the Captain John Collins Chapter, including President and Chancellor Jason M. Shepherd, Vice-President James Poole, Secretary J. Christopher Thompson, Treasurer Wayne L. Brown, Registrar and Immediate Past President William S. Edelen, Jr., Chaplain Rodney C. Pritchett, Sergeant-at-Arms Lewis D. Ray, Jr., Historian James C. Castle, and Newsletter Editor Jami Andrew have honorably lead the Chapter to a conclude its first quarter century and the beginning of the next chapter, which will celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the members, both past and present, of the Captain John Collins Chapter of the Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for 25 years of their outstanding service to Cobb County, applaud them for their ongoing commitment to patriotic and public service, and wish them much continued success in all their endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Captain John Collins Chapter of the Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution .
