Senate Resolution 638 By: Senators Anavitarte of the 31st, Burns of the 23rd, Hatchett of the 50th, Gooch of the 51st, Hufstetler of the 52nd and others A RESOLUTION Commending and recognizing Haynes King of the Georgia Institute of Technology for his outstanding achievements in football and for his contribution to athletics in the state of Georgia; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Haynes King displayed exceptional talent, dedication, and determination in football, earning several outstanding athletic accolades and distinctions throughout his career; and WHEREAS, in 2025, he was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Year, a prestigious recognition of his excellence and prowess on the field; and WHEREAS, in 2025, he was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year, further acknowledging his dominance in the sport; and WHEREAS, during the 2025 season, he rushed and passed for a combined total of 3,920 yards, the highest ever for a Georgia Tech student athlete; and WHEREAS, throughout his career at Georgia Tech, he scored 91 combined touchdowns through the air and on the ground, the highest ever for a Yellow Jacket; and WHEREAS, during his career at Georgia Tech, Haynes King amassed over 10,000 yards of total offense, ranking second all-time in Georgia Tech history, cementing his legacy among the greatest offensive players to ever wear the White and Gold; and WHEREAS, he delivered one of the most prolific individual performances in Georgia Tech history by recording over 500 yards of total offense in a single game, setting a new school record and exemplifying his capacity for historic performances on the sport’s biggest stages; and WHEREAS, he received the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, an honor presented annually to the top offensive player in college football with ties to the state of Texas, recognizing not only his exceptional performance on the field, but also his character; and WHEREAS, during the 2025 season, he rushed for an average of 79.4 yards per game, leading all quarterbacks in the ACC in that category and underscoring his rare ability to impact the game as both a passer and a runner; and WHEREAS, during the 2025 season, he scored an average of 7.5 points per game, leading all quarterbacks in the ACC as a testament to his ability to directly contribute to Georgia Tech’s offensive success; and WHEREAS, he displayed remarkable durability and grit, repeatedly rising after hard fought plays to continue competing at the highest level, earning the respect of teammates, opponents, and fans alike; and WHEREAS, Haynes King was recognized for his character and service off the field as a AFCA Good Works Team nominee and was named to the official watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, honors that recognize student athletes who exemplify leadership, community involvement, and dedication to making a positive impact beyond the game of football; and WHEREAS, his success on the football field has brought immense pride to the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Atlanta community, and the state of Georgia, as he stands as a role model for aspiring student athletes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend and congratulate Haynes King for his outstanding athletic achievements in the sport of football and extend their best wishes for his continued success in his career and future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Haynes King.
