WHEREAS, Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, Ph.D., has long been recognized as a respected and distinguished educator and scholar known for his expertise, professionalism, and deep personal commitment to higher education; and WHEREAS, after selflessly serving with the United States Army from 1966-1969, he completed his education, earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Arlington, his master's degree at the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and his Ph.D. at Florida State University; and WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service the University of North Florida, where he served for 18 years as Vice President of Student and International Affairs, as well as his combined 41 year career at other educational institutes; and WHEREAS, he has served on countless boards over the years, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, the city of Jacksonville’s Hispanic Council, and Girl Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, his outstanding leadership has been honored with many prestigious awards including the Robert Arleigh White Award for Art Advocacy from the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville as well as a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar Award; and WHEREAS, he was installed as a member of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars for achievements in the area of international education and exchange, and served as a member of the Discipline Advisory Committee for Fulbright Scholar awards, as well as, is a Field Reviewer at the Institute of Museum Services in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and his vision and unyielding commitment to higher education will be sorely missed upon the occasion of his retirement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, Ph.D., for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service; congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
