A RESOLUTION

Commending Georgia's trauma professionals, the Georgia Trauma Commission, and the Georgia Trauma Foundation and recognizing February 24, 2026, as Trauma Awareness Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, trauma is the leading cause of death in the United States for those under the age of 45 and the fourth leading cause of death for all ages; and

WHEREAS, physical trauma, including injuries from accidents, violence, and natural disasters, affects millions of individuals each year, leading to significant physical, emotional, and financial burdens; and

WHEREAS, the recognition and awareness of physical trauma are essential for improving prevention, care, and recovery efforts, and both high-quality trauma care facilities and trained medical personnel are crucial for providing immediate and effective treatment to trauma victims; and

WHEREAS, prevention and safety measures such as road safety campaigns, workplace safety regulations, and violence prevention programs play a vital role in reducing the incidence of physical trauma; and

WHEREAS, rehabilitation services, including physical and occupational therapy, are essential for the long-term recovery and well-being of trauma survivors; and

WHEREAS, public education and awareness campaigns are necessary to inform the community about the causes and consequences of physical trauma and the available resources for support and recovery; and

WHEREAS, community organizations and volunteers play a significant role in supporting trauma survivors and promoting safety and prevention efforts.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Georgia's trauma professionals, the Georgia Trauma Commission, and the Georgia Trauma Foundation and recognize February 24, 2026, as Trauma Awareness Day at the state capitol to raise awareness about physical trauma, promote prevention and safety measures, support trauma care and rehabilitation services, and honor the efforts of medical professionals, community organizations, and volunteers in addressing physical trauma. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
