A RESOLUTION

Commending Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell and recognizing February 9, 2026, as Fayette County Day at the Capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Fayette County Democratic Committee (FCDC) is an organization known for its grassroots resilience, community building, and the tireless dedication of its members who believe in creating a political home for Democrats in a rapidly changing Georgia; and

WHEREAS, under the guiding hand of Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell, the FCDC has grown into a vibrant, diverse organization that advocates for progress in one of Georgia's most dynamic counties; and

WHEREAS, Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell has served the FCDC since 1992, holding roles such as treasurer, zone leader, and various committee chairs, as well as serving on the campaigns of several notable local and presidential candidates; and

WHEREAS, in 1996, Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell was elected Chair of the Fayette County Democratic Committee; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, the FCDC transitioned from a small group of enthusiasts into a structured political organization capable of sustained fundraising and effective canvassing; and

WHEREAS, Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell's outstanding contributions have been honored at the highest levels of the state party, as he was awarded the 2008 Thomas Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, in 2012, the FCDC established the Ernie Broadwell Award ensuring his legacy of inclusion, grassroots organizing, and civic participation will continue to influence future generations; and

WHEREAS, today, the FCDC stands as a testament to this legacy, serving as a vibrant and diverse organization that advocates for progress, civic engagement, and democratic values in one of Georgia's most dynamic counties.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell for his unwavering dedication to public service and recognize February 9, 2026, as Fayette County Day at the capitol. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Earnest "Ernie" Broadwell and the Fayette County Democratic Committee.
