A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Meals on Wheels Atlanta for its 60 years of service to seniors and vulnerable individuals by addressing food insecurity, promoting independence, and enhancing quality of life; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Atlanta is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering nutritious meals and providing essential support services to seniors and homebound individuals who are unable to prepare their own meals; and
WHEREAS, this organization serves 500,000 meals each year to nearly 1,100 seniors who face challenges such as limited mobility, chronic illness, disability, and financial insecurity; and
WHEREAS, for six decades, Meals on Wheels Atlanta has not only addressed hunger and malnutrition but has also provided regular wellness checks, social interaction, and a critical safety net that helps reduce isolation among seniors; and
WHEREAS, allowing access to consistent, healthy meals enables older adults to maintain their health, dignity, and independence while having the privilege to age within their communities; and
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Atlanta relies heavily on the dedication of approximately 1,200 volunteers, as well as community partners, and staff who selflessly give their time and resources to serve others with compassion and care; and
WHEREAS, the organization plays a significant role in reducing healthcare costs by preventing hospitalizations and long-term institutional care through early intervention and social interaction; and
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Atlanta exemplifies the values of service, equity, and community responsibility by ensuring that no senior is left hungry or forgotten.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Meals on Wheels Atlanta for 60 years of outstanding service and success as a pivotal force in assisting seniors and extend their most profound appreciation to the volunteers, staff, and supporters of Meals on Wheels Atlanta for their commitment, compassion, and invaluable contributions to the community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Meals on Wheels Atlanta.
