Senate Resolution 752

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Jana Johnson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Jana Johnson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Jana Johnson is the co-founder of the Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights, the primary organizer of the Georgia Coalition 2 Save Lives, and currently serves as the internship director for the Davis Bozeman Law Firm; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her superlative service as the at-large member of the Decatur School Board from 2019 to 2025; and

WHEREAS, from 2011 to 2019, Jana taught at Renfroe Middle School as a member of the building leadership team and the Equity Team; and

WHEREAS, unwaveringly dedicated to student success, Jana served as the club sponsor of Beacon Hill's Young Ladies of Excellence, co-wrote and produced Beacon Hill Middle School's Black History Month plays, and proposed, developed, and taught City Schools of Decatur's first social justice-themed design cycle class; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have been recognized though many prestigious awards including the Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award from the State of Georgia; the Nikki T. Randall Servant Leader Award from the Women's Caucus of the Georgia House of Representatives; the DeKalb Volunteer Lawyer's Foundation Good Citizen Award; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s, Phyllis Thomas Blake Excellence in Civic Engagement Award; the 2024 Gideon's Promise Community Impact Award; and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Florida A&M University; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Jana Johnson for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service and extend their sincere best wishes for her continued health, happiness, and success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Jana Johnson.
