## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia Senate resolution would honor Abigail Savoie, a Fayette County woman killed in a 2022 crash, by naming a new roundabout in Butts County after her.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution memorializes Abigail Savoie, who died on October 21, 2022, when her car was struck at the intersection of State Route 16 and High Falls Road near Jackson, Georgia, by a driver who ran a stop sign. That intersection had a history of accidents, and her death helped prompt plans to convert it into a roundabout designed to be safer for drivers.
The resolution formally dedicates that roundabout as the Abby Savoie Circle of Hope. It directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to put up and maintain signs marking the dedication, and it directs the Secretary of the Senate to send copies of the resolution to Savoie's family and to the Department of Transportation. The resolution does not change any law or provide funding; it is a symbolic tribute and naming action.

### What it does

- Dedicates the roundabout at State Route 16 and High Falls Road in Butts County as the Abby Savoie Circle of Hope.
- Directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to erect and maintain signs marking the dedication.
- Directs the Secretary of the Senate to send copies of the resolution to Savoie's family and to the Department of Transportation.

### Who it affects

The family of Abigail Savoie, residents and drivers who use the State Route 16 and High Falls Road intersection in Butts County, and the Georgia Department of Transportation, which must post and maintain the memorial signage.

### Why it matters

While the resolution carries no legal force beyond the naming, it publicly memorializes a fatal crash victim at a roundabout built partly in response to safety concerns at that intersection, giving the site a lasting name tied to that history.

### Key provisions

- The resolution's whereas clauses describe Abigail Savoie's background, her death on October 21, 2022, and the resulting plan to build a roundabout at the crash site.
- The first resolving clause names the roundabout at State Route 16 and High Falls Road in Butts County the Abby Savoie Circle of Hope.
- A further resolving clause authorizes and directs the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain dedication signs.
- A final resolving clause directs the Secretary of the Senate to distribute copies of the resolution to Savoie's family and the Department of Transportation.
