## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia Senate resolution would name the intersection of State Route 92 and Westbridge Road in Fayette County the Sheriff Randall Johnson Intersection, honoring his nearly 49 year law enforcement career.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution honors Randall Johnson, a longtime Fayette County sheriff, by dedicating a specific road intersection to him. The text recounts his career, from joining the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in 1959 through working at the State Capitol and the Georgia Department of Revenue's Division of Alcohol and Tobacco, to his 1976 election as Fayette County's twenty-third sheriff and eight subsequent reelections.
The operative part of the resolution directs that the intersection of State Route 92 and Westbridge Road in Fayette County be named the Sheriff Randall Johnson Intersection. It instructs the Georgia Department of Transportation to put up and maintain signs marking the dedication, and it directs the Secretary of the Senate to send copies of the resolution to Sheriff Johnson and to the Department of Transportation.

### What it does

- Officially dedicates the intersection of State Route 92 and Westbridge Road in Fayette County as the Sheriff Randall Johnson Intersection.
- Directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to erect and maintain signs marking the dedicated intersection.
- Directs the Secretary of the Senate to distribute copies of the resolution to Sheriff Johnson and the Department of Transportation.
- Recites Sheriff Johnson's biography and career history as the basis for the honor, without creating any new law or funding program.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly affects former Fayette County Sheriff Randall Johnson, the Georgia Department of Transportation, which must install and maintain the signage, and residents and drivers in Fayette County who will see the newly named intersection.

### Why it matters

The resolution has no regulatory or budgetary effect beyond signage; its main real-world impact is a physical marker recognizing a local public servant, which mainly matters to Fayette County residents and those familiar with Sheriff Johnson's career.

### Key provisions

- The resolved clause dedicates the intersection of State Route 92 and Westbridge Road in Fayette County as the Sheriff Randall Johnson Intersection.
- A further resolved clause authorizes and directs the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain appropriate signs for the dedication.
- A final clause directs the Secretary of the Senate to distribute copies of the resolution to Sheriff Johnson and the Department of Transportation.
