A RESOLUTION
Commending Robert Michael "Mike" Kile; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Robert Michael "Mike" Kile began his distinguished law enforcement career
in 1969 as a patrolman with the Sardis Police Department in Burke County, Georgia, and the
following year he became a deputy sheriff in Screven County; and
WHEREAS, he was appointed chief deputy under Sheriff George Bazemore before being
named chief of police in Hiltonia, Georgia, in 1984, where he served for eight years; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, he was elected sheriff of Screven County, assuming office on January
1, 1993, and serving as the county's chief officer for 32 years, during which time he oversaw
the planning and construction of a 175-bed facility designed to replace the county's aging
1930s jail; and
WHEREAS, over his 55 year-long career, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to his
country and community, ensuring the safety of Screven County's residents, including his wife
of 50 years, Helen, as well as their three daughters, four grandchildren, and one
great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS, he is an honest and dedicated public servant who strives for excellence in all
of his endeavors and whose primary concern is the welfare and safety of the citizens of
Screven County; and
WHEREAS, he is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and by state and local
government officials as a man of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration
of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, this spirited law enforcement professional has exhibited extraordinary devotion
to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his
duties; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and
often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement professionals on behalf of the
citizens of this state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication exhibited by Robert Michael
"Mike" Kile in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation and express their utmost
appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Robert Michael
"Mike" Kile.
