Senate Resolution 822
By: Senators Davenport of the 17th, Wicks of the 34th and Parent of the 44th
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Dr. Anthony W. Smith; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the
welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced
dramatically by his superlative service with Clayton County Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, as Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools, Dr. Anthony W. Smith
leads one of the nation's top 100 largest school districts and the sixth largest school system
in the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith is highly regarded as a dedicated leader with a
transformative and innovative approach to education, designed to improve the educational
experience and outcomes of all students; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith was instrumental in the re-establishment of the Clayton
County Public Schools Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars used to support
students by providing thousands of scholarships to graduating seniors and sponsoring
numerous employee initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith further supports his community through civic and social
activities, including being a member of the Masonic Order (Prince Hall) and New Hope
Methodist Church as well as participating in the Stockbridge Jonesboro Alumni Chapter of
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, his efficient and effective commitment to excellence has been recognized by
his peers through the many decorations and awards he has received, including but not limited
to the 2015 Outstanding Servant in Educational Leadership Award from the Association of
Christian Ministers of Clayton County, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Clayton
County Chamber of Commerce, as well as being named the 2025-2026 Superintendent to
Watch by the National School Public Relations Association; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize and commend Dr. Anthony W. Smith and extend their sincere best wishes for his
continued health, happiness, and success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. Anthony W.
Smith.
