Senate Resolution 832 By: Senator Strickland of the 42nd A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and legacy of George Walter Stephens; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, February 17, 2026, marks the 60th anniversary of the passing of George Walter Stephens on February 17, 1966; and WHEREAS, George Walter Stephens served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans from 1940 until his retirement in 1962; and WHEREAS, he enlisted on November 19, 1940, and served with the 2nd Armored Division during World War II, serving in Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe; and WHEREAS, throughout his 22-year military career, he reenlisted multiple times and rose through the ranks, serving as Sergeant First Class, Technical Sergeant, and with the Military Police; and WHEREAS, he received numerous prestigious awards and recognitions during his time in the United States Army, including the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Medal while overseas, as well as the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in 1962; and WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Anna, and was blessed with six remarkable children, Pat, Mary, Tony, Mike, Debbie, and Johnny; and WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, George Walter Stephens is long remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and is missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and legacy of George Walter Stephens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of George Walter Stephens.
