A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 4, 2025, as Dyslexia Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin; and
WHEREAS, dyslexia is the most common learning disability, affecting approximately one
in five individuals and approximately 80 percent of all individuals with a learning disability;
and
WHEREAS, the condition is often unexpected because those it affects can have a very high
level of intelligence but read at a much lower level; and
WHEREAS, dyslexia causes difficulty with phoneme segmentation, the ability to break
words down into individual sounds; and
WHEREAS, an individual with dyslexia may have weaknesses in decoding and reading
fluency, but they are often surrounded by a sea of strengths in reasoning, problem solving,
concept formation, critical thinking, and vocabulary; and
WHEREAS, early diagnosis is critical for early remediation and evidence-based intervention
that leads to self-awareness, self-empowerment, self-esteem, and necessary accommodations
to ensure student, school, and life success; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to draw attention to the profound educational
impact of dyslexia on the education and lives of countless children, adults, and students in
the State of Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize February 4, 2025, as Dyslexia Day at the state capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the
press.
