Senate Resolution 887 By: Senator Bearden of the 30th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Dr. James Larry Boss and dedicating a road in his honor; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Dr. James Larry Boss has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and WHEREAS, Dr. Boss was born to a sharecropper during the Great Depression and graduated from McDonough High School, where he was an outstanding football player; and WHEREAS, a graduate of Emory University and Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Boss served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty as a flight surgeon with the United States Air Force; and WHEREAS, Dr. Boss has been a devoted and dedicated fan of Villa Rica High School's football program and served as the Wildcats team physician providing aid to injured players and fans for decades; and WHEREAS, his leadership and guidance have been instrumental on numerous boards and organizations, including the Villa Rica City Ethics Board, Bank of Villa Rica, Regions Bank, and the Rapha Clinic; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 61 from SR 101 to the intersection with Dallas Highway (Villa Rica North Loop Bypass) in Carroll County is dedicated as the Dr. J. Larry Boss Old Town Highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating Dr. J. Larry Boss Old Town Highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. James Larry Boss and to the Department of Transportation.
