A RESOLUTION

Honoring the accomplishments of the Georgia Wildlife Federation; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 1936, concerned hunters and anglers were alarmed by the dramatic decline of Georgia's wildlife populations—particularly white-tailed deer and wild turkey—and, recognizing the urgent need for action, traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the first North American Wildlife Conference; and

WHEREAS, inspired by that gathering and committed to restoring Georgia's wildlife and natural resources, these leaders founded the Georgia Wildlife Federation to promote science-based conservation, foster knowledge and appreciation of the outdoors, support responsible outdoor recreation, and secure funding to conserve Georgia's wildlife, forests, waters, and habitats; and

WHEREAS, for 90 years, the leaders, members, partners, volunteers, and supporters of the Georgia Wildlife Federation have played an instrumental role in advancing wildlife and natural resource conservation across Georgia—from early efforts to restore game species and support the establishment of Georgia's wildlife agency to continued leadership in statewide conservation planning efforts; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Wildlife Federation has helped build broad public support for dedicated conservation funding essential to wildlife restoration, public access, and habitat protection—from early advocacy for the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act to more recent support for the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program, ensuring long-term investment in Georgia's lands and waters; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Wildlife Federation has encouraged generations of Georgians to value and responsibly enjoy the outdoors through conservation education and ethical participation in hunting, angling, and other outdoor traditions while expanding opportunities for young people, women, and new audiences to engage in conservation and stewardship; and

WHEREAS, over nine decades, the Georgia Wildlife Federation has earned statewide recognition as a trusted and respected conservation organization, building enduring partnerships with state agencies, conservation organizations, landowners, and community leaders to advance practical, science-based solutions that benefit Georgia's natural resources in every region of the state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body extend their sincere appreciation to the Georgia Wildlife Federation's Board of Directors, leaders, members, partners, volunteers, and supporters—past and present—for their dedication to conservation and stewardship for the benefit of all Georgians. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Wildlife Federation.
