A RESOLUTION
Commending the county marshals of the State of Georgia and their deputies for the contributions they make to the communities they protect and serve and recognizing March 11, 2025, as County Marshals' Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the office of marshal was established in Georgia before independence as the highest law enforcement officer of the colony, predating the establishment of the office of sheriff in Georgia; and
WHEREAS, marshals and deputy marshals continue their work alongside county sheriffs and other members of federal, state, and local law enforcement in accordance with this historic tradition; and
WHEREAS, county marshals and deputy marshals remain essential to the administration of justice and the maintenance of public safety in many communities throughout the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, county marshals and deputy marshals bear responsibility for enforcing highly technical laws and standards as well as performing other specialized duties that require extraordinary tact and compassion; and
WHEREAS, county marshals and deputy marshals diligently strive to protect and serve the State of Georgia and its people.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the county and deputy marshals of the State of Georgia as well as the other members of the organizations that they lead for their contributions to the communities that they protect and serve.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body recognize March 11, 2025, as County Marshals' Day at the state capitol in celebration of the work of the county and deputy marshals of the State of Georgia as well as the other members of the organizations that they lead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
