A RESOLUTION
Honoring and commending Dr. A. Lois Keith for her lifetime of exemplary leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the mission of the National Council of Negro Women; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Dr. A. Lois Keith is a Legacy Life Member and Bethune Achiever of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) who has dedicated much of her life to advancing the organization's mission of advocacy, leadership, and community empowerment; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, Dr. Keith was honored to serve as Co-Chair of NCNW's 57th National Convention and was elected to the position of National Vice President, reflecting the trust and confidence placed in her leadership; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Keith has served as National Membership Chair during the administrations of Dr. Dorothy I. Height and Ms. Ingrid Saunders Jones, contributing significantly to the growth, sustainability, and strength of the organization; and
WHEREAS, in 2022, Dr. Keith was reappointed as National Vice President and served as a member of the NCNW Transition Team, as well as Co-Chair of the 60th Biennial National Convention; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Keith's extensive service to NCNW includes roles as Executive Member-at-Large, member of the National Nominating Committee, member of the National Re-Certification Committee, National Assistant Secretary, Co-Chair of Membership, and member of the President's Circle; and
WHEREAS, at the local level, Dr. Keith has demonstrated steadfast leadership within the DeKalb Section of NCNW, serving as President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Chair of the Leadership Committee, and as a charter member of the DeKalb Pacesetters Life Guild; and
WHEREAS, beyond NCNW, Dr. Keith is a champion for equitable education, having earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Alabama A&M University, a master's degree in middle school education from Georgia State University, and completing additional studies at Mercer University, followed by a distinguished 30-year teaching career with the Henry County School System; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Keith's excellence in education and service has been recognized through numerous honors, including Teacher of the Year awards, nomination to Who's Who Among America's Teachers, the Principal's Award, and the establishment of the Lois Keith Trailblazer Award for Exemplary Community Service in her honor; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Keith's civic engagement further includes service with organizations such as the East Metro Orchids, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society, and the Classy Sassy Red Hatters, reflecting a lifelong commitment to leadership and service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor and commend Dr. A. Lois Keith for her lifetime of leadership, service, and transformative impact within NCNW, education, and the broader community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. A. Lois Keith.
