A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Dr. Gyimah Whitaker; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Dr. Gyimah Whitaker, EdD, began her tenure as Superintendent of the City
Schools of Decatur on July 1, 2023, bringing more than two decades of educational
leadership experience to one of Georgia's most respected school districts; and
WHEREAS, prior to leading City Schools of Decatur, Dr. Whitaker served in progressively
responsible roles in Georgia's largest school systems, including as Deputy Chief Academic
Officer of Fulton County Schools and as an area superintendent and executive director,
shaping academic programs and improving outcomes across diverse student populations; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Dr. Whitaker has demonstrated a steadfast commitment
to equity, academic excellence, high-quality instruction, and student-centered leadership,
fostering collaborative learning environments in schools and communities alike; and
WHEREAS, as Superintendent, she has focused on implementing the district's strategic
vision, "All In Decatur," emphasizing meaningful engagement with families, educators, and
stakeholders to advance achievement, equity, and opportunity for every student; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Whitaker's work in education has been recognized beyond the local
community, including her selection to serve on the governing board of the American
Association of School Administrators, where she represents Georgia and contributes to

WHEREAS, Dr. Whitaker's academic credentials, including degrees from the University of
Pennsylvania and a doctorate in educational leadership and administration from Georgia

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize and commend Dr. Gyimah Whitaker, Superintendent of the City Schools of
Decatur, and extend sincere best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. Gyimah
Whitaker.
