By: Senators Cowsert of the 46th, Dolezal of the 27th, Hufstetler of the 52nd, Payne of the
54th and Gooch of the 51st
A RESOLUTION
Congratulating and commending Thomas "Tommy's" Barber Shop; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, in September 2025, Thomas "Tommy's" Barber Shop enjoyed the rare
distinction of celebrating the 66th anniversary of its founding; and
WHEREAS, founded in September 1959, in Buckhead, Georgia, by Gilmer "Tommy"
Thomas Sr., this outstanding barbershop has grown from its humble beginnings to become
a well-known staple in the Buckhead community; and
WHEREAS, this remarkable small business has served numerous senators, congressmen,
state legislators, governors, mayors, executives, captains of industry, and professional
athletes, including Coca-Cola Company Chairman Robert Woodruff, Governor Brian Kemp,
Senator Johnny Isakson, Governor Joe Frank Harris, Governor Nathan Deal, Coach Vince
Dooley, and Sports Reporter Furman Bisher, as well as many local residents; and
WHEREAS, Thomas "Tommy's" Barber Shop started collecting commemorative Coca-Cola
bottles in 1977 and is currently the only business in the world that Coca-Cola has produced
four commemorative bottles recognizing their 40th, 50th, 60th, and 65th year in business;
and
WHEREAS, the barbers of Thomas "Tommy's" Barber Shop support their community by
unselfishly devoting innumerable hours of their time and talents to the area; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
extraordinary barbershop be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
congratulate Thomas "Tommy's" Barber Shop upon the grand occasion of its 66th
anniversary; commend it for its many years of successful operation; and extend best wishes
for its continued growth, development, and success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Thomas
"Tommy's" Barber Shop.
