A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 17, 2026, as Grayson Day at the Capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, located in Gwinnett County, the City of Grayson was officially incorporated on
December 17, 1902, by an Act of the Georgia General Assembly, with John E. Jacobs
serving as its first mayor; and
WHEREAS, the area that would become the City of Grayson was first developed during the
early 19th century through the efforts of numerous founding families, the names and legacies
of which remain visible across Grayson today; and
WHEREAS, soon after its incorporation, the City of Grayson developed its first formal
schools and saw the growth of churches such as Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Asbury
Methodist Episcopal Church South, and Grayson Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, the railroad served as an important part of daily life in Grayson from 1898 until
passenger service ended in January 1932, with the depot area remaining visible between Britt
and Gym Streets; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grayson is now home to many historical sites and areas of interest,
including the Cofer Home, the Chupp-Britt Home, the Etheridge Home, the Potato House
Building, Hoke Cown's Store, and the Old Grayson Post Office; and
WHEREAS, the city has continued to demonstrate sustained growth, strong civic
engagement, and a commitment to the well-being of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the rich and enduring history of this
extraordinary city be appropriately honored during this special time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize March 17, 2026, as Grayson Day at the Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the
press.
