WHEREAS, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens was born on November 26, 1926, in Havana, Florida, to the late Goldie Ervin Harrison and John Spencer Harrison; and WHEREAS, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens was a woman of unwavering faith, strength, and dignity who lived her life with grace, compassion, and determination; and WHEREAS, she was a faithful and devoted member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where her spiritual foundation and love for God guided her throughout her life; and WHEREAS, Sister Mickens was known as a hardworking and dedicated woman who labored in the tobacco fields and later served as a Supervisor at the Crab Factory in Havana, Florida, demonstrating leadership, perseverance, and a strong work ethic; and WHEREAS, she was united in holy matrimony to Arthur Mickens, and together they built a loving family and were blessed with nine children, all of whom she nurtured with wisdom, discipline, and unconditional love; and H. R. 10EX WHEREAS, Sister Mickens possessed a vibrant spirit and a love for travel, faithfully making yearly summer trips to New York, embracing opportunities to experience life beyond her hometown while maintaining strong ties to family and community; and WHEREAS, she greatly admired Father Divine for his wisdom and education, reflecting her appreciation for knowledge, leadership, and spiritual guidance; and WHEREAS, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens was known as a strong woman who stood her ground, spoke with conviction, and carried herself with courage and dignity, earning the love and respect of all who knew her; and WHEREAS, on February 16, 1962, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens departed this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, strength, devotion to family, and enduring love that continues to inspire generations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the life and memory of Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens and celebrate her many contributions as a devoted wife, mother, church member, worker, and pillar of strength within her family and community.
