A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Speaker Jon Burns and Mrs. Dayle Burns upon the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on June 26, 1976, following their graduation from Georgia Southern University, Jon and Dayle were united in marriage before family, friends, and loved ones at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bartow, Florida, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith, love, mutual respect, and an unwavering commitment to one another; and

WHEREAS, as they celebrate the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary, they mark a milestone that reflects five decades of enduring devotion, shared purpose, and steadfast support through every season of life; and

WHEREAS, together they have built a loving family, raising two sons, Jon Guerry Burns and Wilson Burns, and delighting in the blessings of five beloved grandchildren—Jon David, Ava, Elizabeth, Georgia, and Lila—whose lives stand as a testament to the values of faith, integrity, and compassion instilled by their grandparents; and

WHEREAS, their grandchildren have expressed profound gratitude for the impact Jon and Dayle Burns have had on their lives, sharing that Jon and Dayle's commitment to one another H. R. 28EX

has taught them the importance of family, hard work, and unconditional love; that some of their most cherished memories are because of their grandparents and will remain with them forever; that Jon and Dayle have shown them what a strong marriage looks like and have always been the heart of their family; and that they are honored to celebrate this milestone with them; and

WHEREAS, Jon and Dayle Burns are devoted members of the historic Mizpah Church in Clyo, Georgia, where their faith and church family have served as the cornerstone of their marriage and lives; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Dayle Burns devoted her distinguished career to educating and inspiring the children of Southeast Georgia, faithfully serving generations of students while expanding opportunities for academic achievement and lifelong success; and

WHEREAS, Speaker Burns has faithfully served the people of Georgia with integrity, humility, and principled leadership, and his extraordinary service has been strengthened by the constant encouragement, wisdom, and partnership of Dayle, whose support has been instrumental throughout his years of public service; and

WHEREAS, united by a shared passion for improving the lives of their neighbors, they have championed meaningful advancements in education, including supporting Georgia's most significant early literacy reforms in decades, helping ensure that countless children are equipped with the foundational skills needed to thrive for generations to come; and

WHEREAS, throughout their marriage, Jon and Dayle Burns have remained true partners in every endeavor, faithfully supporting one another from the farm to the classroom, from the halls of the State Capitol to the warmth of their home, strengthening one another through H. R. 28EX

every challenge and triumph while dedicating themselves to serving their family, their community, and the great State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body recognize the extraordinary example set by Jon and Dayle Burns, whose lives together have been defined by faith, family, service, and an enduring love that continues to inspire all who know them; and

WHEREAS, we know what they know; it's a GREAT DAY TO BE A GEORGIAN!

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Speaker Jon Burns and Mrs. Dayle Burns upon the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2026; extend their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes; and express profound appreciation for their many contributions to the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Speaker Jon Burns and Mrs. Dayle Burns.
