A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and memory of Betty Lee Harrison Dickey; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, it is with profound respect and heartfelt remembrance that we honor the life and legacy of Betty Lee Harrison Dickey, whose life, though brief in years, was rich in love, faith, family devotion, and cherished memories; and

WHEREAS, Betty Lee Harrison Dickey was born on October 7, 1938, in Havana, Florida, as the beloved youngest daughter and "baby" of the late Goldie Ervin Harrison and John Spencer Harrison, and from her earliest days, she brought joy and laughter to all who knew her; and

WHEREAS, she was baptized at an early age and joined Hopewell African Methodist Episcopal Church in Havana, Florida, where she developed a foundation of faith that remained with her throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, she was united in holy matrimony to Robert Dickey, and together they were blessed with one son, Robert Dickey Jr., who was the pride and joy of her life and whom she loved with all her heart; and

WHEREAS, Betty Lee was known throughout her family as a devoted and loving mother whose affection for her son was boundless, and she often spoke proudly of him and celebrated every accomplishment and milestone in his life; and

WHEREAS, she also shared a special bond with her niece, Mary Ann Harrison, whom she loved dearly and cared for as though she were her own child, offering guidance, encouragement, and motherly affection that left a lasting impact; and

WHEREAS, understanding the value of hard work and perseverance, Mrs. Dickey labored in the tobacco fields during her younger years and later worked as a domestic employee before obtaining employment with the State of Florida, demonstrating determination and dedication in every endeavor she pursued; and

WHEREAS, despite the challenges of balancing work and family responsibilities, she remained committed to her education and proudly earned her diploma from Carter-Parramore High School in Quincy, Florida, through the school's night program in 1968, serving as an example of persistence and lifelong learning; and

WHEREAS, Betty Lee possessed a vibrant spirit and infectious personality, and she was known as a fun-loving individual who enjoyed life, treasured family gatherings, and brought warmth, laughter, and happiness to those fortunate enough to be in her presence; and

WHEREAS, although illness came upon her at a relatively young age and required her to spend several years in nursing care facilities in Wakulla County and later Tallahassee, Florida, she faced her circumstances with courage, dignity, and grace; and H. R. 39EX

WHEREAS, on October 26, 1976, Mrs. Betty Lee Harrison Dickey departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest, leaving behind treasured memories and a legacy of love that continues to live on in the hearts of her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, her life serves as a testament to the enduring values of faith, perseverance, devotion to family, and finding joy even in the face of adversity; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the memory of this beloved daughter, wife, mother, aunt, church member, and friend be appropriately recognized and honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the life and memory of Betty Lee Harrison Dickey and express their deepest respect and appreciation for a life that touched countless hearts through kindness, faith, resilience, and love.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Betty Lee Harrison Dickey.
