House Resolution 61EX By: Representatives Davis of the 87th, Cummings of the 39th, and Jones of the 60th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the 50th Southern Regional Conference and the Centennial Celebration of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is a private nonprofit organization founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University and is dedicated to public service, scholarship, sisterhood, and social action; and WHEREAS, the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was established in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1926 and has served communities throughout the southeastern United States for 100 years through advocacy, educational initiatives, leadership development, and community engagement; and WHEREAS, in 2026, the Southern Region proudly celebrates its Centennial Anniversary, marking a century of unwavering commitment to uplifting underserved communities, empowering women and families, and advancing educational, economic, health, and civic opportunities for all; and H. R. 61EX WHEREAS, the 50th Southern Regional Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, from August 7 through August 9, 2026, bringing together thousands of members, leaders, and guests to commemorate this historic milestone and to continue the organization's mission of service and leadership; and WHEREAS, Atlanta holds special significance as the birthplace of the Southern Region, making this conference both a homecoming and a celebration of the organization's enduring legacy; and WHEREAS, throughout its history, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has positively impacted communities through programs focused on educational development, economic empowerment, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement; and WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has long been recognized by a Georgia specialty license plate, and recent legislation enhanced this designation by converting the license plate into a revenue-sharing specialty license plate, creating a sustainable funding source to support scholarships, community-based programs, and service initiatives throughout the State of Georgia; and WHEREAS, this legislative achievement reflects the enduring impact of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and reinforces its commitment to educational advancement, health equity, economic empowerment, social justice, and civic engagement through investments that will benefit generations to come; and H. R. 61EX WHEREAS, the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. have distinguished themselves through extraordinary acts of service, civic engagement, and advocacy that strengthen communities throughout Georgia and beyond; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions and historic achievements of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. be appropriately recognized. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the 50th Southern Regional Conference and the Centennial Celebration of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., extend a warm welcome to all attendees visiting Atlanta, Georgia, and congratulate the organization on 100 years of exemplary service, leadership, scholarship, sisterhood, and social action. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Southern Regional Director, the Conference Leadership Team, the Decatur Alumnae, and the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter.
