SB385: SB385 General Assembly; abolishment of the office of administration floor leaders; provide

26 LC 64 0015 Senate Bill 385 By: Senator Moore of the 53rd A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Chapter 1 of Title 28 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to1 general provisions regarding the General Assembly, so as to provide for the abolishment of2 the office of administration floor leaders; to make conforming changes; to provide for related3 matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:5 SECTION 1.6 Chapter 1 of Title 28 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated , relating to general7 provisions regarding the General Assembly, is amended by revising subsection (a) of Code8 Section 28-1-8, relating to salary and allowances of members and officers, as follows:9 "(a) Each member of the General Assembly shall receive an annual salary, as provided for10 in Code Section 45-7-4, to be paid in equal monthly installments. Upon complying with11 the requirements of paragraph (22) of subsection (a) of Code Section 45-7-4, each member12 shall also be reimbursed for those actual expenses incurred in the performance of duties for13 which reimbursement is provided in paragraph (22) of subsection (a) of Code Section14 45-7-4. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Speak er Pro Tempore of the15 House of Representatives, and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate shall receive an16 S. B. 385 - 1 - 26 LC 64 0015 additional amount per annum as provided for in Code Section 45-7-4. The majority leader,17 and the minority leader, the administration floor leader, and the assistant administration18 floor leaders of the House of Representatives and the majority leader, and the minority19 leader, the administration floor leader, and the assistant administration floor leaders of the20 Senate shall each receive such additional amount per annum as s hall be provided by21 resolution of the respective houses; but such amount for each shall not be greater than the22 additional amount provided by law for the Speaker Pro Tempore o f the House of23 Representatives. All of such additional amounts shall also be paid in equal monthly24 installments."25 SECTION 2.26 Said chapter is further amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:27 "28-1-18.28 There shall be no office in the House of Representatives or Senate named administration29 floor leader or assistant administration floor leader. No member of the General Assembly,30 in his or her capacity as a member, shall be granted special privileges, including additional31 salary or office space, by virtue of having been named to an of fice or position by the32 Governor."33 SECTION 3.34 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.35 S.
