26 LC 112 3690 House Resolution 1006 By: Representatives Barnes of the 86th, Drenner of the 85th, Lupton of the 83rd, Tran of the 80th, and Cannon of the 58th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Mr. Louis Boos; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, since the 1960s, Mr. Louis Boos has been an active and influential member of2 the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), an organization dedicated3 to setting industry standards, providing education, and driving innovation throughout the4 field; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. Boos served as affiliate chairman of TAPPI's Paper Industry Management6 Association (PIMA) and has generously shared his expertise and leadership to advance the7 industry and its professionals; and8 WHEREAS, he has served on the University of Maine Pulp and Pape r Foundation Board9 since 1970, where he established the first scholarship with an international focus,10 underscoring his lifelong commitment to global education; and11 WHEREAS, Mr. Boos and his late wife, Jean, strongly believed in the value of international12 and cross-cultural experiences, frequently traveling abroad and opening their home to13 international students; and14 H. R. 1006 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3690 WHEREAS, in 2001, the couple founded the Boos Family International Experience Award,15 which provides study abroad opportunities for students in countries such as Finland, Spain,16 and Taiwan; and17 WHEREAS, Mr. Boos has also demonstrated a deep commitment to ad vancing medical18 research by endowing a cancer research fund at Duke University's Tisch Brain Tumor Center19 and serving as a valued member of its advisory board; and20 WHEREAS, continui ng his lifelong dedication to education and me ntorship, Mr. Boos21 currently mentors students at Kennesaw State University's Honor s College, where he22 supports international study through the Jean Schade Boos Inter national Study Abroad23 Scholarship; and24 WHEREAS, as a member of the Dean's Board of Advisors of Kennesaw State University's25 Honors College, he actively raises funds for scholarships, help s connect students with26 internships, and builds relationships with companies seeking to employ KSU students; and27 WHEREAS, Mr. Boos has also been deeply engaged in civic and com munity work,28 volunteering with Necessary Trouble, a local Indivisible group dedicated to promoting civic29 participation and supporting the election of thoughtful and committed public servants; and30 WHEREAS, guided by a passion for the pulp and paper industry for more than six decades,31 a belief in the importance of global engagement, and a commitme nt to community, civic32 leadership, and student success, Mr. Boos has built a legacy de fined by philanthropy,33 mentorship, and forward-thinking leadership; the very embodiment of "Think and Do."34 H. R. 1006 - 2 - 26 LC 112 3690 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that35 the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Louis Boos f or his outstanding36 professional achievements, generous philanthropy, civic service, and steadfast dedication to37 education and global collaboration as well as extend the most s incere best wishes for38 continued health, happiness, and success.39 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized40 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mr.41 Louis Boos.42 H.
