26 LC 112 3681 House Resolution 999 By: Representatives Cox of the 28th, Jasperse of the 11th, Hatchett of the 155th, Fincher of the 23rd, Barrett of the 24th, and others A RESOLUTION Urging all Georgia citizens, cities, and counties to remember a nd honor the sacredness of1 America's 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026; and for2 other purposes.3 WHEREAS, on July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of4 Independence, proclaiming that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with5 unalienable rights to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"; and6 WHEREAS, this momentous document, principally authored by Thoma s Jefferson with7 significant contributions from John Adams, established the principles of limited government,8 individual liberty, and constitutional governance that remain t he cornerstone of American9 freedom; and10 WHEREAS, Georgia played a vital role in our nation's founding, with three Georgian11 delegates—Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, and George Walton—courageously signing the12 Declaration of Independence; and13 WHEREAS, the 250th Anniversary, occurring on July 4, 2026, represents a seminal moment14 deserving of solemn recognition and joyous celebration; and15 H. R. 999 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3681 WHEREAS, this milestone provides an opportunity for all Georgia ns to renew their16 commitment to the timeless principles of liberty, personal responsibility, limited government,17 and God-given rights that define our constitutional republic.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that19 the members of this body urge all Georgia citizens, cities, and counties to remember and20 honor the sacredness of America's 250th Anniversary through mea ningful participation in21 commemorative activities, educational initiatives, and patriotic celebrations.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage all Georgians to23 study and reflect upon the principles enshrined in the Declaration of Independence; honor24 the memory of our nation's founders and all who have defended our constitutional republic;25 engage in civic education and encourage democratic participatio n; strengthen community26 bonds through shared celebration of our heritage; and renew the ir commitment to liberty,27 justice, personal responsibility, and constitutional principles.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage all municipalities29 and counties to organize commemorative events, historical displ ays, and educational30 programs that celebrate this sacred anniversary and inspire future generations to cherish and31 protect the blessings of liberty.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the34 public and the press.35 H.
