A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Rustin/Lorde Community Breakfast; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, The Southern Unity Movement Inc. proudly announces the 25th annual2
Rustin/Lorde Community Breakfast on January 19, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the Loudermilk3
Conference Center in Atlanta; and4
WHEREAS, the event brings together community members to celebra te and advance the5
values of inclusion, justice, and activism inspired by civil ri ghts activist Bayard Rustin,6
architect of the 1963 March on Washington, and Audre Lorde, fem inist, poet, and equal7
rights activist; and8
WHEREAS, founded in January 2002, the Rustin/Lorde Breakfast has become a cornerstone9
event, offering attendees a unique opportunity before participating in the Martin Luther King,10
Jr. Day March; and11
WHEREAS, the breakfast aims to provide a platform for attendees to connect and share12
experiences, educate communities about ongoing issues of inequality as well as the lives and13
contributions of Bayard Rustin, Audre Lorde, and other activist s, and enhances mutual14
support and continued learning among participants working for social justice; and15

WHEREAS, this year's event is hosted by Lisa Cunningham, Executive Vice President at the16
Black Women's Health Imperative, and will feature two keynote s peakers: Alexis Pauline17
Gumbs, author of Survival is a Promise: the Eternal Life of Audre Lorde, and Marcus Lee,18
Assistant Professor at Princeton University known for his work on Black and LGBTQ+19
histories; and20
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstand ing community event be21
appropriately recognized.22
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that23
the members of this body recognize the Rustin/Lorde Community B reakfast and The24
Southern Unity Movement Inc. for their innumerable contributions to inclusion, justice, and25
activism in the State of Georgia.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to The28
Southern Unity Movement Inc., the public, and the press.29
