26 LC 49 2445 House Bill 972 By: Representatives Berry of the 56th, Olaleye of the 59th, Rice of the 139th, Herring of the 145th, Hagan of the 156th, and others A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Part 3 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Of ficial Code of Georgia1 Annotated, relating to educational programs under the "Quality Basic Education Act," so as2 to require public school governing bodies to provide written notice to parents and guardians3 of students in grades four through eight at least twice each school year stating whether such4 student has attained grade level reading proficiency; to provide for related matters; to repeal5 conflicting laws; and for other purposes.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:7 SECTION 1.8 Part 3 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Co de of Georgia Annotated,9 relating to educational programs under the "Quality Basic Educa tion Act," is amended by10 adding a new Code section to read as follows:11 "20-2-153.2.12 Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, each local board of edu cation and other public13 school governing body shall develop and implement a policy to provide written notice to14 the parent or guardian of each student enrolled in grades four through eight stating whether15 H. Suc h written notice shall be16 provided no less than twice each school year."17 SECTION 2.18 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.19 H. B. 972 - 2 -
