26 LC 129 0515 Senate Resolution 576 By: Senators Goodman of the 8th, Sims of the 12th, Watson of th e 11th, Summers of the 13th, Jones II of the 22nd and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Nicholas “Big Nick” Harden for his o utstanding service,1 leadership, and contributions to the City of Valdosta and the State of Georgia; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, Nicholas “Big Nick” Harden has long demonstrated an un wavering4 commitment to the citizens of Valdosta, Georgia, through his dedication to public service,5 community empowerment, and humanitarian relief efforts; and 6 WHEREAS, during the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Idalia i n 2023, Mr. Harden7 mobilized resources, volunteers, and community partnerships to feed more than 40,0008 citizens, with support from the American Red Cross, ensuring th at families in need were9 cared for in one of the city’s most difficult times; and10 WHEREAS, in 2024, when Hurricane Helene struck, Mr. Harden once again rose to the11 occasion, providing over 2,000 hot meals to affected residents with the help of friends and12 community members, embodying the true spirit of compassion and service; and13 S. R. 576 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0515 WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of disaster readiness, Mr. Harden hosted an14 Emergency Preparedness Town Hall to educate citizens on proacti ve measures and15 community resilience, helping Valdosta become better prepared for future emergencies; and16 WHEREAS, as a dedicated City Councilman, Mr. Harden has championed civic engagement,17 government transparency, and voter participation, inspiring many residents—especially those18 historically disengaged—to become more involved in local governance; and19 WHEREAS, through his beloved establishment, Big Nick’s Juke Joi nt, he has enriched20 Valdosta’s culinary and cultural landscape, creating a space th at unites people across21 backgrounds through exceptional food, music, and fellowship whi le uplifting local and22 regional artists and musicians; and23 WHEREAS, as a Founding Fifty Member of the Southern Georgia Bla ck Chambers, Mr.24 Harden has worked tirelessly to support economic empowerment an d entrepreneurship,25 particularly among young and emerging business owners; and26 WHEREAS, through his mentorship in the SGBC CTAE Partnership wi th Valdosta High27 School, he continues to inspire the next generation of entrepre neurs and leaders, offering28 guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for professional growth; and29 WHEREAS, as a business owner, Mr. Harden provides valuable jobs in the community,30 paying livable wages and promoting upward mobility among his employees, exemplifying31 ethical leadership and corporate responsibility; and32 S. R. 576 - 2 - 26 LC 129 0515 WHEREAS, prior to his civic and entrepreneurial accomplishments, Mr. Harden brought joy33 t o c o u n t l e s s c i t i z e n s a s a r a d i o D J , s h a r i n g m u s i c , h u m o r , a n d connection across the34 airwaves; and35 WHEREAS, through his kindness, warmth, and unwavering commitmen t to community,36 Nicholas “Big Nick” Harden has become a beloved leader, mentor, and hometown hero,37 making Valdosta a stronger, more connected, and more compassionate city.38 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body39 recognize and commend Nicholas “Big Nick” Harden for his except ional leadership,40 humanitarian spirit, and outstanding service to the citizens of Valdosta and the State of41 Georgia, and extend their heartfelt best wishes for his continued success and happiness.42 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed43 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Nicholas “Big44 Nick” Harden.45 S.
