26 LC 129 0650 House Resolution 1037 By: Representatives Carter of the 93rd, Glaize of the 67th, Williams of the 168th, Howard of the 129th, and Bazemore of the 69th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Elizabeth Lloyd Smith; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Elizabeth Lloyd Smith; and3 WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lloyd Smith was born onDecember 13, 1923, in Cordesville, South4 Carolina, a beloved daughter, sister, caregiver, and friend; and5 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Elizabeth Lloyd Smi th was an active6 member of Bethel Gospel Assembly, in New York, as well as New Birth Missionary Baptist7 Church, in Georgia; and8 WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage to her husband, John, and was blessed with9 one remarkable daughter, Angel; and10 WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lloyd Smith was most proud of her work as a foster grandparent at11 the New York Metropolitan Hospital Center, where she selflessly cared for infants and12 children battling AIDS; and 13 H. R. 1037 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0650 WHEREAS, a dedicated advocate, Elizabeth Lloyd Smith was instrumental in designing the14 AIDS quilt that traveled to Washington, D.C., bringing national attention to the youngest15 fighters of the disease; and16 WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern17 for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and unders tanding she demonstrated to18 her family and friends were admired by others; and19 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation20 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,21 she made this world a better place in which to live; and22 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Elizabeth Lloyd Sm ith will long be23 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who24 had the great fortune of knowing her.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Elizabeth Lloyd Smith and27 express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30 family of Elizabeth Lloyd Smith.31 H.
