26 LC 129 0656 Senate Resolution 623 By: Senators Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Albers of the 56th and Setzler of the 37th A RESOLUTION Recognizing the 25th Anniversary of the Captain John Collins Ch apter of the Georgia1 Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter of the Georgia Societ y of Sons of the3 American Revolution organized in Cobb County on October 14, 200 0, with the purpose,4 commitment, and enthusiasm of promoting patriotism and preservi ng America's founding5 history and heritage; and 6 WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter's proud members are d escended from the7 patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War; and 8 WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter continues to perpetuate the ideals of the war9 for independence, through the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph10 of the men and women who achieved the independence of the American people; and 11 WHEREAS, for 25 years, the exemplary community service undertaken by the members of12 Captain John Collins Chapter includes working with Cobb County' s veterans; placing13 markers at Revolutionary War patriots’ gravesites; offering the services of the color guard14 to parades and grave dedications; planting Liberty Trees, and b uilding dedicating markers15 S. R. 623 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0656 and monuments recognizing America's 250th, and other appropriat e events, including16 participating in new citizenship swearing-in ceremonies; and 17 WHEREAS, the Captain John Collins Chapter annually honors individuals for outstanding18 patriotic achievement as well as service to our community; and19 WHEREAS, moreover, the Captain John Collins Chapter annually acknowledges outstanding20 high school students with the Awards and Scholarship opportunities, works closely with and21 recognizes exceptional Cobb County JROTC cadets, conducts and participates in induction22 ceremonies to recognize new Eagle Scouts, and hosts a verity of programs for students in23 Cobb County promoting patriotism and preserving American history; and24 WHEREAS, the elected officers of the Captain John Collins Chapter, including President and25 Chancellor Jason M. Shepherd, Vice-President James Poole, Secre tary J. Christopher26 Thompson, Treasurer Wayne L. Brown, Registrar and Immediate Past President William S.27 Edelen, Jr., Chaplain Rodney C. Pritchett, Sergeant-at-Arms Lew is D. Ray, Jr., Historian28 James C. Castle, and Newsletter Editor Jami Andrew have honorably lead the Chapter to a29 conclude its first quarter century and the beginning of the next chapter, which will celebrate30 America's 250th anniversary.31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body32 recognize and commend the members, both past and present, of th e Captain John Collins33 Chapter of the Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for 25 years of their34 outstanding service to Cobb County, applaud them for their ongoing commitment to patriotic35 and public service, and wish them much continued success in all their endeavors.36 S.
