A RESOLUTION
Recognizing William “Marvin” Rutledge’s 30 years of service to the city of Norcross in the1
state of Georgia; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the state of Georgia is honored to pay tribute to Marv in Rutledge who3
exemplifies the true spirit of a “Public Servant” and whose com passion and genuine4
commitment to the city of Norcross, Georgia, and its citizens, is a source of inspiration to5
everyone; and6
WHEREAS, Marvin was born and raised in Norcross, Georgia, and started his government7
career with the city of Norcross in July 1994 in the Water Depa rtment, initially serving as8
a Water and Sewer Technician; and9
WHEREAS, known as a quiet, hardworking, and dedicated employee, he advanced to several10
positions, ultimately retiring as the Supervisory Maintenance L eader in the Public Works11
department, culminating a 30-year outstanding career; and12
WHEREAS, Marvin advanced his career to accumulate an impressive list of honors13
including employee of the year, employee of the month, and a 25 -year service award for14

excellence, as well as consistently sought training and educati on opportunities to better15
himself and was constantly recognized for providing excellent and reliable work; and16
WHEREAS, Marvin was known as the first person to call after hours for any emergencies17
or issues and would respond at all hours of the night to includ e weekends and holiday,18
willingly and with enthusiasm; and19
WHEREAS, his motto was, “I am on it;” no matter how big or small the issue was, the city20
could rely on Marvin's selfless service and initiative to resol ve issues at any time, day or21
night; and22
WHEREAS, he was involved in his community both as a city employ ee and a concerned23
citizen and comes from a legacy of service and community suppor t as far back as his24
grandfather who volunteered to drive black students in the area to school at a time of25
segregation; and 26
WHEREAS, Marvin was a servant professional who was humble and never afraid to roll up27
his sleeves and get his hands dirty; he inspired others by his work ethic, working with staff,28
and was highly respected and trusted by all; and 29
WHEREAS, Marvin was the consummate team player dedicated to hel ping others and30
offering assistance and support willingly to everyone; and 31
WHEREAS, with a positive attitude and a smile, Marvin always put the greater good of the32
community ahead of personal consideration and earned the respect and admiration of whom33
he came into contact with; and 34

WHEREAS, through all these various endeavors, he received the h ighest regard of all his35
associates and the admiration of citizens throughout the community, making it abundantly36
fitting and proper to honor this remarkable public servant.37
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that38
the members of this body recognize and commend William “Marvin” Rutledge for his many39
outstanding contributions on behalf of the citizens of this sta te as well as extending best40
wishes for his continued success.41
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized42
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to43
William “Marvin” Rutledge.44
