26 LC 129 0726 House Resolution 1060 By: Representatives Panitch of the 51st, Cooper of the 45th, Efstration of the 104th, Tran of the 80th, Cox of the 28th, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2026; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, January 27, 2026, marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz3 Birkenau Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp where over one million people were4 murdered, most of them Jewish; and5 WHEREAS, by marking this important anniversary and the Internat ional Day of6 Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, we aff irm the continued7 relevance to teach and learn about the Holocaust; and8 WHEREAS, the Holocaust, in which six million Jewish men, women, and children were9 systematically murdered by the Nazi regime, along with millions of others, including people10 with disabilities, political dissidents, and countless others, serves as a solemn reminder of11 what happens when hate is unchecked; and12 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia honors the memory of those who perished, the survivors13 who carry the scars of their experiences, and the generations w ho have inherited the14 responsibility to remember and educate future generations; and15 H. R. 1060 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0726 WHEREAS, on this anniversary, the state of Georgia recommits it self to combating the16 global rise in antisemitism; and17 WHEREAS, the people of Georgia recognize the importance of combating hate and bigotry18 in all forms, standing in solidarity against antisemitism, raci sm, and all forms of19 discrimination that seek to dehumanize and divide us; and20 WHEREAS, the lessons of the Holocaust call upon us to be vigila nt, to uphold human21 dignity, and to actively promote peace, understanding, and respect for all people, regardless22 of their background, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, or religion; and23 WHEREAS, this day serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the24 enduring importance of remembrance.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body honor January 27, 2026, as International Holocaust Remembrance27 Day and avow that we will remember the history and lessons of the Holocaust and honor its28 victims, survivors and liberators.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the31 public and the press. 32 H.
