26 LC 61 0280 House Resolution 1111 By: Representatives Scott of the 76th, Davis of the 87th, and Schofield of the 63rd A RESOLUTION Encouraging bipartisan support for and the promotion of critica l media consumption and1 literacy education in Georgia's public high schools as a tool to reduce political polarization2 and strengthen both civic and civil discourse; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, political polarization in the United States has reached historic levels, leading4 to rising hostility, the erosion of civil discourse, and acts o f political violence threatening5 democratic stability; and6 WHEREAS, critical media literacy education has been shown to re duce susceptibility to7 misinformation and increase civil discourse; and8 WHEREAS, if passed, the Georgia Critical Media Literacy and Polarization Reduction Act9 of 2026 will establish a nonpartisan, standards based curriculu m to equip students with10 essential civic skills.11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that12 the members of this body:13 (1) Encourage bipartisan support for the passage of the Georgia Critical Media Literacy and14 Polarization Reduction Act of 2026; and15 H. R. 1111 - 1 - 26 LC 61 0280 (2) Urge local school systems to actively promote, implement, and support the curriculum16 in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Education for public high schools as a tool17 to reduce political polarization and strengthen both civic and civil discourse.18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized19 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the20 Governor, the Georgia Department of Education, and local boards of education.21 H.
