26 LC 129 0761 House Resolution 1142 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, Jackson of the 68th, Hugley of the 141st, and Mitchell of the 88th A RESOLUTION Recognizing January 29, 2026, as Doula Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, a doula is a non-clinical support person who provides care to improve perinatal2 health outcomes for laboring, birthing, and postpartum individuals, as well as loss support;3 and4 WHEREAS, the hallmarks of doula support emphasize community-bas ed interpersonal5 relationships, health promotion through preventive care, childb irth and health education,6 emotional support, and the improvement of health outcomes; and7 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has a rich history of mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters,8 or other close individuals attending births as supportive figures, and research shows that even9 without formal training, this support can significantly decreas e the likelihood of cesarean10 sections, shorten labor times, and improve the birthing experience; and11 WHEREAS, throughout history and across cultures, community-chos en doulas have been12 revered for their roles in supporting birthing individuals, and Georgia's doulas continue this13 legacy by attaining certifications, working in hospitals as full time employees and training14 H. R. 1142 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0761 other doulas and providers on trauma informed care, language in clusivity, and natural15 comfort methods ; and16 WHEREAS, doulas such as Tayla Kelly, Imani Gunn, Andané Brown, Ali Holness-Roland,17 Marieh Scales, Danielle Lyles Barton, Samantha Sanders , Brandi White, Jordyn Williams,18 Kaylee Lamberr, Christina Lundy, Koya Siebie, Mislene Cherisca, Natasha Morales, Yvette19 Young, Jaela Lewis, Yvette Young, Natasha Goodman, Carla Gochett, Berthina Marquez,20 Janisa Camille, and Liv Hood are making a meaningful difference in Georgia through their21 services, agencies, and advocacy; and22 WHEREAS, agencies and doula services such as YS Doula Services, The Susie King Taylor23 Foundation, Balanced Life Pilates, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babi es, Blooming All Over,24 Divine Hands Doula, The Sacred Willow Doula, Damahooddoula, SunSoulistic LLC, Birthin25 Black LLC, Wellstar Hospital's Women's Health Education Support Services , Redefine26 Wellness Holistic Coaching, LLC, The Yin Experience , Sisterson g, Balanced Wellness27 Integrative Services LLC, FMVS Inc, and Doula of The Divine pro vide vital support to28 Georgia's families; and29 WHEREAS, these agencies and individuals create opportunities for doula entrepreneurs to30 collaborate on critical initiatives that enhance maternal and child health outcomes.31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that32 the members of this body recognize January 29, 2026, as Doula Day at the state capitol.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the35 public and the press.36 H.
