26 LC 129 0805 Senate Resolution 641 By: Senators Parkes of the 7th, Jackson of the 41st, Parent of the 44th, Jones II of the 22nd, Merritt of the 9th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing January 29, 2026, as Doula Day at the capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, doulas play an essential role in maternal and infant h ealth outcomes across2 Georgia, particularly in addressing persistent disparities that disproportionately impact Black3 mothers and infants, families with disabilities, and communitie s with limited access to4 maternity care; and 5 WHEREAS, peer-reviewed research consistently demonstrates that doula support improves6 birth outcomes, reduces unnecessary medical interventions, and enhances patient autonomy7 and satisfaction; and8 WHEREAS, since 2011, Georgia-based doulas, birth workers, and m aternal health9 organizations, including long-standing training and service providers such as the Bellies to10 Babies Foundation, have contributed to measurable improvements in maternal care,11 reductions in cesarean section rates, and expanded access to culturally competent support;12 and13 WHEREAS, doula’s work has been especially impactful in communit ies facing provider14 shortages, systemic bias, and rural maternity care gaps; and15 S. R. 641 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0805 WHEREAS, recognizing Doula Day at the capitol provides an oppor tunity for legislators,16 advocates, and community members to honor these contributions, elevate evidence-based17 solutions to Georgia's maternal health challenges, and reaffirm the General Assembly's18 commitment to improving outcomes for families statewide.19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body20 recognize January 29, 2026, as Doula Day at the capitol.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed22 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the23 press.24 S.
