26 LC 129 0717 House Resolution 1116 By: Representatives Schofield of the 63rd, Scott of the 76th, Davis of the 87th, Donatucci of the 105th, Cameron of the 1st, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring all cancer patients, survivors, and their families as well as recognizing February1 4, 2026, and Cancer Action Day; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, World Cancer Day is an international day observed every February 4, to raise3 awareness about cancer, encourage its prevention, and mobilize action to address the global4 cancer epidemic; and5 WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the non-6 profit, non-partisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society; and7 WHEREAS, the ACS CAN empowers advocates across the state to make their voices heard8 and influence evidence-based public policy change that will reduce the cancer burden on our9 state; and10 WHEREAS, cancer remains the leading cause of death in Georgia, and it is estimated that11 more than 68,000 Georgians will be diagnosed with cancer in 2026; it is also estimated that12 over 19,000 Georgians will pass away from cancer this year; and13 H. R. 1116 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0717 WHEREAS, ACS CAN advocates for policies that prevent cancer; promote early detection14 and screening; improve access to affordable, quality healthcare ; and reduce tobacco and15 nicotine use by engaging lawmakers with data, research, and constituent stories; and16 WHEREAS, cancer patients face countless challenges associated w ith their diagnoses,17 including physical, emotional, financial, and day-to-day challenges; and18 WHEREAS, as Georgia continues to navigate through tough legislation, it is more important19 than ever to support efforts to combat cancer; and20 WHEREAS, not only will effective policies to prevent, detect, a nd treat cancer save21 countless lives, but they will significantly reduce the financial strain that this disease places22 on Georgians and our great state; and 23 WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network would like to recognize24 all cancer survivors, caregivers, and advocates.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body honor all cancer patients, survivors, and their families; remember27 those people who have been lost to cancer; and recognize February 4, 2026, as Cancer Action28 Day.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the31 public and the press.32 H.
