26 LC 129 0639 Senate Resolution 637 By: Senators Parent of the 44th, Orrock of the 36th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Jackson of the 41st, Merritt of the 9th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 3, 2026, as Girl Scout Day at the state ca pitol and commending the1 Girl Scouts as a national leader in providing the best leadership development experience in2 the world to American girls; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, more than a century ago, native Savannahian Juliette Gordon Low started the4 movement known as the Girl Scouts; beginning with the first gat hering of 18 girls in5 Savannah on March 12, 1912, Juliette broke the conventions of the time by reaching across6 class, cultural, and ethnic boundaries to ensure that all girls, including those with disabilities,7 had a place to grow and develop their talents and leadership skills; and8 WHEREAS, the life mission of Juliette Gordon Low was to build g irls of courage,9 confidence, and character; and10 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience encourages girls to develop a strong sense11 of self, connect to their communities both locally and globally, and feel empowered to make12 a difference in the world; and13 S. R. 637 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0639 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts offers hands-on, girl-led, and girl-centered learning in STEM, the14 outdoors, and entrepreneurship and provides abundant opportunit ies to help girls develop15 invaluable life skills; and16 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Sc out can earn,17 acknowledges each recipient's power and dedication to not only bettering herself but also to18 making the world a better place for others; and19 WHEREAS, more than 59 million American women are Girl Scout alumnae, and 2.6 million20 girls and adult volunteers are active members; and21 WHEREAS, today, there are 43,000 Girl Scout members in the Stat e of Georgia in every22 corner of the state; and23 WHEREAS, the movement started by Juliette Gordon Low now reaches every corner of the24 world with Girl Scouts living throughout the United States, its territories, and in more than25 90 countries across the globe; and26 WHEREAS, today, the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia and Greater Atlanta Councils serve27 approximately 43,000 Girl Scout members in the State of Georgia.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 recognize February 3, 2026, as Girl Scout Day at the state capi tol and commend the Girl30 Scouts as a national leader in developing girls of courage, confidence, and character.31 S.
