26 LC 112 3688 House Resolution 1133 By: Representatives Glaize of the 67 th, McDonald III of the 26 th, Efstration of the 104 th, Dempsey of the 13th, Paris of the 142nd, and others A RESOLUTION Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service and reaffirming support1 for its continued public service to the American people; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service (USPS) was founded in 1775 under the3 leadership of Benjamin Franklin, the first Postmaster General, and it remains one of the4 nation's oldest and most trusted public institutions; and5 WHEREAS, for 250 years, the United States Postal Service has fu lfilled its constitutional6 mandate to "bind the Nation together" by ensuring reliable, sec ure, and universal mail7 delivery to all Americans, regardless of geography or economic status; and8 WHEREAS, the USPS carries out the safe delivery of prescriptions, election ballots, business9 correspondence, and personal communication that sustain familie s, communities, and10 commerce throughout the United States; and11 WHEREAS, the more than 630,000 postal employees nationwide—including thousands here12 in the State of Georgia—embody dedication and integrity in serv ice to the people of this13 nation; and14 H. R. 1133 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3688 WHEREAS, the USPS stands as a self-sustaining, constitutionally authorized public15 institution that belongs to the people and has consistently demonstrated its essential role in16 promoting democracy, connectivity, and economic opportunity; and17 WHEREAS, proposals to privatize, weaken, or dismantle the Posta l Service threaten the18 affordability, accessibility, and reliability of this service, particularly in rural and underserved19 areas of Georgia; and20 WHEREAS, Georgia's leaders stand with postal workers and citizens in affirming that the21 Postal Service must remain a public service—affordable, accessible, and accountable to all,22 continuing its vital mission to serve every household and community.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service25 in honor of its historic contributions and enduring commitment to serving the American26 people.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body reaffirm their support for the28 United States Postal Service as a vital public institution that must not be weakened or29 diminished.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the32 public and the press.33 H.
