26 LC 129 0810 House Resolution 1161 By: Representative Draper of the 90th A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 5, 2026, as Latino Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Georgia is home to more than one million residents of Latin American heritage,2 whose families are deeply rooted in the economic, social, and cultural fabric of the state and3 whose contributions are essential to Georgia’s prosperity and growth; and4 WHEREAS, Latino families in Georgia are predominantly composed of immigrant parents5 who contribute their talent, labor, and entrepreneurial spirit at higher workforce participation6 rates than any other demographic group, strengthening Georgia’s economy across urban and7 rural communities alike; and8 WHEREAS, Latino workers are over represented in the agricultura l, construction,9 manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, and retail sectors, pla ying an indispensable role in10 sustaining a stable and affordable food, supply for all communi ties, caring for our loved11 ones, building and maintaining our homes and supporting food and beverage establishments12 among other sectors and driving the state’s competitiveness in an increasingly global13 economy; and14 H. R. 1161 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0810 WHEREAS, over 90 percent of Latino children in Georgia are US b orn citizens and are15 almost 1 in 5 of every children in Pre-K-12, underscoring Latin os integral role in shaping16 Georgia's future and a driver of Georgia’s workforce and long term economic sustainability17 with greater concentrations in School Districts in Dalton (72 p ercent) Gainesville (6218 percent), Hall (50 percent), Echols (46 percent), Gwinnett (35 percent), and Dekalb (2119 percent); and20 WHEREAS, Latino entrepreneurs are community providers and conti nue to strive for21 self-sufficiency across Georgia, generating jobs, revitalizing local economies, and reflecting22 sustained investment in the state’s future; and23 WHEREAS, the success and well-being of American children are directly tied to Georgia’s24 ability to compete in a global economy that depends on education, innovation, multilingual25 capacity, and cultural fluency; and26 WHEREAS, Georgia’s Latino community is rich, diverse and ready to continue building our27 state across all sectors, industries including the state’s crea tive economy through cultural28 leaders, performers, and artists of all kinds; and29 WHEREAS, Latino civic participation continues to grow, with Lat ino voters among the30 fastest-growing segments of the electorate in Georgia, reflecting increasing engagement in31 the democratic process and commitment to the state’s future; and32 WHEREAS, the continued growth of Latino families will shape Geo rgia’s economic33 strength, cultural vitality, and global relevance for generations to come.34 H. R. 1161 - 2 - 26 LC 129 0810 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that35 the members of this body recognize February 5, 2026, as Latino Day at the state capitol.36 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized37 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the38 public and the press.39 H.
