A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Beatrice “Bea” Jackson; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Beatrice “Bea” Jackson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state2
for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the3
welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and 4
WHEREAS, after moving to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1978 Bea worked f or DeKalb’s Council5
on Aging where she helped to organize Georgia's 1st Silver Haired Legislature; and6
WHEREAS, she subsequently went on to devote 23 years as an Innovation Manager for the7
Northwest Georgia Girl Scout Council, where she designed and de veloped the Council's8
outreach program called “Girls Are Great” that not only received Regional acclaim but also9
became the National model for Girl Scout's of USA; and10
WHEREAS, following her successful career, Bea selflessly dedica ted her time to the11
Washington Street Community Center where she is the Executive D irector and has been12
instrumental in the development of that Center into a year round program center for youth13
and their families; and14

WHEREAS, she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Covingt on Area Alumni15
Chapter charter member, a member of the Newton County Chamber o f Commerce and is16
actively involved with Saint Paul AME Church in Covington, Georgia; and17
WHEREAS, this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high18
ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possesses the vast wisdom19
which only comes through experience and the strength of charact er which is achieved20
through overcoming the many challenges of life; and21
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this22
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24
recognize and commend Beatrice “Bea” Jackson for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and25
dedicated service to the State of Georgia and extend their sincere best wishes for continued26
health, happiness, and success.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Beatrice “Bea”29
Jackson.30
