26 LC 129 0774 Senate Resolution 650 By: Senators Anderson of the 43rd, Harbison of the 15th, Mangham of the 55th, Sims of the 12th, James of the 28th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Maraget Wimberly; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Maraget Wimberly has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the2 vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare3 of the citizens of Georgia; and 4 WHEREAS, Margaret is a retired high school English and American Literature teacher with5 a distinguished 37-year career in the Newton County School System; and6 WHEREAS, her unwavering dedication to student success, innovati ve teaching, and7 passionate leadership earned her numerous awards and accolades including the Who's Who8 among American High School Teachers and a Disney's American Tea cher Award9 nomination; and10 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Margaret is an acti ve member of Grace11 United Methodist Church in Covington, Georgia, where she volunteers for the food pantry12 ministry and serves as vice president of the United Women in Faith; and 13 S. R. 650 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0774 WHEREAS, she is a Certified Lay Servant and has served on the Board of Ordained Ministry14 for the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church as well as was the ADOX15 District Lay Leader for eight years, where she was in charge of 60 churches; and16 WHEREAS, she further serves her community as a dedicated member of the Newton county17 MLK Scholar Committee, the NAACP, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and serves18 as Historian with the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., New Rock Chapter and as19 Corresponding Secretary for the R. L. Cousins Alumni Association; and20 WHEREAS, this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high21 ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possesses the vast wisdom22 which only comes through experience and the strength of charact er which is achieved23 through overcoming the many challenges of life; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this25 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 recognize and commend Maraget Wimberly for her efficient, effec tive, unselfish, and28 dedicated service to the State of Georgia and extend their sincere best wishes for continued29 health, happiness, and success.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Maraget32 Wimberly.33 S.
