26 LC 129 0754 Senate Resolution 648 By: Senators Anderson of the 43rd, Harbison of the 15th, Mangham of the 55th, Sims of the 12th, James of the 28th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Junior League Movement on the oc casion of its 125th1 anniversary and honoring its enduring legacy of developing wome n leaders and2 strengthening communities through volunteer service, civic engagement, and advocacy; and3 for other purposes.4 WHEREAS, the Junior League was founded in 1901 by Mary Harriman, with the vision of5 empowering women to improve their communities through trained volunteer leadership; and6 WHEREAS, for 125 years, the Junior League Movement has advanced women’s leadership7 for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, colla boration, and leadership8 development; and9 WHEREAS, the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) supports a global10 network of nearly 300 local Leagues across multiple countries, mobilizing more than 112,00011 women committed to strengthening communities through service and leadership; and12 WHEREAS, the Junior Leagues of Georgia State Public Affairs Committee (JLGA SPAC)13 serves as a statewide training and advocacy body that educates Junior League members on14 S. R. 648 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0754 the legislative process and coordinates nonpartisan public policy engagement across Georgia;15 and16 WHEREAS, JLGA SPAC supports informed advocacy efforts focused o n the aid and17 protection of women and girls, equity, healthcare access, and e ducation, while preparing18 women to serve as effective civic leaders in nonprofit organiza tions, public service,19 education, healthcare, and business; and20 WHEREAS, members of the Junior League Movement have contributed thousands of21 volunteer hours and significant financial resources to advance education, family stability,22 health and well-being, civic engagement, and community vitality throughout the State of23 Georgia; and24 WHEREAS, the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Junior League Movement25 provides an opportunity to honor the women who built this legac y and to inspire future26 generations to lead with purpose, integrity, and impact.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28 recognize and commend the Junior League Movement on its 125th anniversary and extend29 its appreciation to Junior League members, past and present, for their enduring contributions30 to leadership development and community improvement.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body acknowledge the continued32 service of the Junior Leagues of Georgia and the Junior Leagues of Georgia State Public33 Affairs Committee in advancing civic leadership, equity, education, healthcare access, and34 the well-being of women and girls across the state.35 S. R. 648 - 2 - 26 LC 129 0754 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed36 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Junior League37 Movement.38 S.
