26 LC 129 0822 Senate Resolution 664 By: Senators Parent of the 44th, Jones II of the 22nd, Jackson of the 41st, Halpern of the 39th, Orrock of the 36th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 10, 2026, as Dyslexia Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin; and2 WHEREAS, dyslexia is the most common learning disability, affecting approximately one3 in five individuals and approximately 80 percent of all individuals with a learning disability;4 and5 WHEREAS, the condition is often unexpected because those it affects can have a very high6 level of intelligence but read at a much lower level; and7 WHEREAS, dyslexia causes difficulty with phoneme segmentation, the ability to break8 words down into individual sounds; and9 WHEREAS, an individual with dyslexia may have weaknesses in dec oding and reading10 fluency, but they are often surrounded by a sea of strengths in reasoning, problem solving,11 concept formation, critical thinking, and vocabulary; and12 S. R. 664 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0822 WHEREAS, early diagnosis is critical for early remediation and evidence-based intervention13 that leads to self-awareness, self-empowerment, self-esteem, and necessary accommodations14 to ensure student, school, and life success; and15 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to draw attention to the profound educational16 impact of dyslexia on the education and lives of countless children, adults, and students in17 the State of Georgia.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body19 recognize February 10, 2026, as Dyslexia Day at the state capitol.20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed21 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the22 press.23 S.
